Why Baba Baidyanath Dham Matters
Baba Baidyanath Dham is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, and it is rare among them: the complex is also revered as a Shakti Peetha, which is why devotees speak of it as Hardapeetha, where the heart of Sati is said to have fallen. That double sanctity (Shiva and Shakti in one courtyard) is what draws pilgrims to Deoghar, "the abode of the gods", through the year.
The main shrine sits inside a walled complex of more than twenty smaller temples. A tradition many families keep is the tying of sacred threads between the Baidyanath and Parvati temples, whose spires are joined, a wish made together, as a couple or a family.
Most devotees begin at the Shivganga pond, a two-minute walk from our door, taking water for the abhishek before joining the queue. Staying this close means you can do all of it on foot, at your own pace, and come back to your room to rest afterwards.
Planning Your Darshan
Timings, Queues & the Shravani Mela
The temple opens very early (devotees typically start queuing before dawn for the morning puja) and closes for a period in the afternoon before reopening for the evening aarti and shringar. Exact timings shift with the season and with festival days, so rather than trusting a fixed schedule online, ask our front desk on the morning of your darshan: we live 200 metres away and will tell you the day's actual timing and the calmest hour to walk over.
Shravani Mela (the month of Shravan, usually July–August) is Deoghar's biggest season. Lakhs of kanwariyas in saffron walk the roughly 105 km from Sultanganj carrying Ganga water to offer here, and the town's queues, traffic and room rates all peak. If you plan to visit then, book as early as you can, and if you would rather have the temple quiet, the winter months from November to February are pleasant and far calmer.
Whichever season you choose, an early check-in can usually be arranged so you can bathe and change before darshan. Tell us your train or flight timing when you book and we will do our best to have a room ready.

Practical Tips for Your Temple Visit
Dress modestly and traditionally. The temple is an active place of worship, and simple, covered clothing is appreciated.
Expect to leave footwear, and usually leather items, outside the sanctum. Carry as little as possible.
Photography is restricted inside the main shrine; please follow the temple staff's instructions.
Queues are shortest very early in the morning. Weekends, Mondays and the Shravan month are the busiest.
Carry a bottle of water and any medication you need, as the queue can take time on busy days.
Ask our front desk before you set out: we will tell you the day's darshan schedule and the calmest time to walk over.
